It’s hard to imagine a government program to provide benefits that needs an extra “push” from that government to get people to apply. To be a bit crass, if the government, or anyone else for that matter, is offering free money, there is typically no shortage of those eager to take the cash.
However, so fouled up was the introduction of Obamacare, that the Obama administration resolved to take additional actions to encourage people to apply for the insurance. After all, if the introduction of the president’s signature initiative fell flat on its face, this would be humiliating. And we know how much politicians, especially those with egos the size of Mr. Obama’s, hate humiliation.
So, Mr. Obama’s team coordinated efforts between the IRS, everyone’s favorite government agency, and Health & Human Services to use taxpayer information in a direct mail marketing campaign to solicit those taxpayers to sign up for Obamacare. Of course, divulging such income tax data is illegal, but nothing must stand in the way of the greater good of the dignity and perceived success of the Obama administration.
“Judicial Watch recently announced they received documents from the IRS revealing the Obama IRS coordinated with the Department of Health and Human Services and the Obama White House Behavioral Sciences ‘Team’ in a $5 million program to pressure Americans to sign up for Obamacare.”
Let’s pause a moment. As if this isn’t scandal enough, what is a “White House Behavioral Sciences Team?” That title sounds so flexible, that it’s ominous. Surely, the Obama administration was not bent on conducting psychological warfare experiments on its own citizens, was it? What were we funding?
Back to the main topic.
“Even worse, the documents also contain inter-agency agreements between the IRS and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) devised to circumvent potential legal prohibitions on unauthorized disclosure or inspection of taxpayer information collected by the IRS, says Judicial Watch.”
How encouraging to learn that the government agencies involved were cognizant of the legal prohibitions against such actions. It is discouraging, but predictable, that those agencies focused not on following the law but on circumventing those legal prohibitions.
The Gateway Pundit nails the issue with this question, “If Obamacare is so great, why did they have to bully and threaten Americans like a mafia shakedown?”
The head of Judicial Watch summed matters up this way:
“So now we have more evidence of more Obama IRS abuses targeting innocent Americans – all in the name of Obamacare. No wonder it took a federal lawsuit and court order to get these documents—as they show the Obama White House and its agencies were happy to threaten and treat Americans like lab rats in order to bolster Obamacare.”
If you have to threaten people to get them to sign up for a benefits program, essentially giving them free money, something is seriously wrong.
Of course, Obamacare is a disaster and remains a pox on our nation. The Democrats refuse to fix it since that would be a statement that they were wrong in enacting it, a horrifying thought if there ever was one. The Republican establishment refuses to repeal and replace it for a host of bad reasons we’ll not rehearse here.
Meanwhile, Americans get the shaft, courtesy of perfidy of the Obama administration, and the obstructionism of Congress.
If we are to be extricated from this mess, it looks like it will be Judicial Watch, President Trump, and those allied with them who will get the job done. Let’s have confidence that will be enough.
