Instead of spending all their time attacking President Trump by pursuing the investigation into alleged irregularities involving possible contact between the president’s campaign team and Russia, the Democrats should get their own house in order. And that even goes beyond the perpetual allegations of criminal behavior by Hillary.
Indeed, Hillary is only one of their problems. There are a number of other characters who have some skeletons rattling around their closets, begging to come out and hit the national stage.
One of the more prominent of these individuals, one who acts like she has a lot to hide, is Debbie Wasserman Shultz, Democratic congresswoman and former chair of the DNC. Scandals are swirling about her as she tries to deny any nefarious connection with Imran Awan, her IT staffer who was nabbed by authorities as he was trying to flee the country. He has been charged with bank fraud for starters. What will happen to Debbie?
“According to Politico, Awan is being detained on one count of bank fraud for apparently deceiving the Congressional Federal Credit Union when he applied for a home loan.
“However, he’s also suspected as a major player in a double-billing scheme for computer hardware that he allegedly helped orchestrate while he was an IT staffer for top congressional Democrats, including former DNC head Wasserman Schultz. Federal officials also suspect him of mishandling sensitive information by putting it in the cloud.”
So what we have here is an IT staffer for a number of House Democrats charged with bank fraud, and against whom allegations have been made of mishandling sensitive or even classified information. And Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz is right in the middle of it.
“‘There is something quite amiss as to why Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz continued to use taxpayer funds to employ former technology staff member, Imran Awan, even months after he was barred from accessing the House’s computer systems and a number of her colleagues severed ties with Awan,’ Matthew Whitaker, FACT’s executive director, said in a press release.
“‘Since Awan’s arrest last week, Wasserman Schultz has been evasive and unable to answer even basic questions about the nature of Awan’s employment with her office. This only further confirms the urgency of an investigation into her unethical and illegal actions.'”
Debbie has herself in the dog house. She continued to employ as her IT staffer a man who had been barred from accessing House computer systems. That sort of makes you wonder how he could do his IT job. And if he couldn’t, what was Wasserman Schultz having the government pay him to do? Perhaps he still had access anyway and was working to copy as much secret information from congressional computers to other sites under his control as possible.
Now we learn that, “[T]he Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust filed an ethics complaint against the Florida representative in Congress on Monday to find out more about why Awan kept getting taxpayer coin for doing nothing despite being the subject of a federal investigation — a fact that likely makes Wasserman Schultz wish those hard drives weren’t just smashed but thrown into the caldera of Mount Doom.”
These are just the sort of actions that can spell disaster for Wasserman Schultz, and likely a bunch of her fellow Democratic congressmen. Then again, they should have remembered the kindergarten lesson about being careful who you select as friends.
