It seems like at least weekly we are being treated to another allegation of illegal wiretapping or other surveillance of media and political figures. And this comes on the heels of a claim by WikiLeaks that it has dumped all of the CIA’s hacking tools on the internet for anyone to review or use.
Electronic privacy and its opposite, hacking, even loomed large over the recent presidential election. There was the Hillary email scandal, the release of embarrassing private conversations among members of the Democratic National Committee, and accusations by Donald Trump that his phones had been tapped in his offices in the Trump Tower. Now we have yet another allegation of eavesdropping to consider.
Jerome Corsi writing on behalf of Inforwars has made the following claim: “Infowars.com have obtained credible information from law enforcement sources regarding individual records of U.S. citizens under National Security Agency (NSA) electronic surveillance in the years 2004 through 2010 – a database that suggests both Donald J. Trump and Alex Jones were under illegal, unauthorized government monitoring during those years.”
That’s a very serious claim to make, and proving it might be all but impossible considering the NSA is the subject of the allegations. However, when considered in the light of what has been revealed by WikiLeaks and others over the past several months, who would dismiss such a claim out of hand?
The database referred to was the result of investigations by former Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joseph M. Arpaio and associate Michael Zullo, portions of which were provided to Inforwars.
What’s in this database? According to Corsi, “Sheriff Arpaio and Chief Investigator Zullo have identified dozens of entries at various addresses, including both Trump Tower in New York City and Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, under which Donald Trump was apparently under NSA electronic surveillance from 2004, during President George W. Bush’s term of office, through 2009, the first year of President Obama’s presidency.”
So what we apparently have here is a bipartisan approach to illegal surveillance. Much of the source article contains detailed lists too voluminous to reproduce here. But if true, Mr. Trump wasn’t able to do much that the government wasn’t aware of.
Adding credence to President Trump’s accusations of being wiretapped during his campaign, “Former CIA officer Larry Johnson recently joined the Alex Jones show to discuss how intelligence sources have stated that such surveillance of Trump during the presidential election in fact took place.”

This is all very disturbing, but really not that surprising. We’ve seen the reports alleging that Mr. Obama had a multitude of people’s cellular phones tapped including supposed allies such as Chancellor Merkel of Germany. Should it come as a surprise that political opponents might have been the target of electronic eavesdropping?
