It looks like the Democrats are running out of ideas for attacking President Trump. They went to extraordinary lengths in attempts to deny him the office of president after he won it fairly. At the same time, he was referred to by those on the left as not a “legitimate” president, basically because he won the election with a significant margin of the electoral votes, which matters, but without a majority of the popular votes, which doesn’t matter.
A lot of this can be attributed to the left’s shock at losing an election they thought they had in the bag. Apparently they thought by running an utter criminal with great name recognition that they could win the election. What they probably could not accept is that the name “Hillary” has at least as much negative connotation attached to it as positive.
As a result, the Democrats are left flailing around for some sort of cause to which they can attach themselves that will get them some significant support. They’ve got Black Lives Matters, the pro-choice movement, and the Muslim organizations in the US supporting them. Feminists will stick with them, but even the labor vote, once taken for granted, it no longer a sure thing. So, we are not surprised by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi taking to the news shows with a new line of attack.
The latest idea hatched from the mind of Nancy Pelosi is to attempt to insinuate that President Trump is being blackmailed by Russian President Putin. She bases this on the fact that, unlike Hillary Clinton, Mr. Trump has not been making bellicose statements toward Russia, calling Mr. Putin a new “Hitler,” or threatening nuclear war.
So here’s the best she can come up with for now as an attack on the president. On Meet the Press, Pelosi said, “I want to know what the Russians have on Donald Trump. I think we have to have that investigation by the FBI into his financial, personal and political connections to Russia, and we want to see his tax returns so we can have a truth in the relationship between Putin whom he admires.”
The first question to ask is if the Russians have anything on Donald Trump. So far, he has indicated a desire to have a good relationship with Mr. Putin and Russia. And Putin clearly had no use for Mr. Obama. Those facts prove nothing.
Where she puts her foot in it is when she speaks of a desire for “truth.” She had best be very careful with getting all self-righteous with that one. If the truth comes out about her failed candidate for president and much of her party’s political leadership, she might find herself with an even smaller minority in the House.
