The further we get away from the exercise in extreme misgovernment known as the Obama administration, the more the corruption endemic to that regime and those entities it touched comes to light. There are many places to begin an examination.
HUD employees embezzled millions. The IRS was misused to attack not-for-profit groups with views at variance with those of Mr. Obama. There’s the Benghazi scandal which touches on Hillary whose alleged offenses are so numerous, various, and profound as to make listing them here impossible. Then there is the corruption of the immigration laws, and the blatant race-baiting that left us a more divided nation.
Obamacare has mutated into the fiasco its detractors predicted leaving those it was supposed to help perhaps worse off than they were before. Even the consummate liberal, Senator McCaskill from Missouri has admitted that passing it was a mistake. Of course, she might just be saying that to try to save her seat which is up in 2018.
For the purpose of the current study, we’ll ignore those atrocities for the moment and focus on the strange case of the employment of Pakistani nationals, most of whom from the same family, to oversee computer and data operations for a few dozen congressional Democrats.
From the position of the congresspersons involved, former DNC chair, ardent Hillary supporter, and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is front and center. From the standpoint of the IT staffers, Imran Awan who is under felony indictment by the feds is at the center.
While there are allegations of embezzlement, wire fraud, and the compromising of confidential documents on the part of this apparent Islamic spy ring headed by Awan, it now turns out that the feds are investigating this collection of miscreants for the possible theft and sale of classified materials to foreign intelligence agents from Russia and Pakistan.
While nothing is proven, yet, would it not be ironic if all the fuss over allegations of President Trump’s campaign team colluding with Russians were just a phony cover for very real offenses of a more serious nature carried out under the noses of a couple dozen Democratic office holders?
“Federal authorities are investigating whether sensitive data was stolen from congressional offices by several Pakistani-American tech staffers and sold to Pakistani or Russian intelligence, knowledgeable sources say.
“What started out 16 months ago as a scandal involving the alleged theft of computer equipment from Congress has turned into a national security investigation involving FBI surveillance of the suspects.
“Investigators now suspect that sensitive US government data — possibly including classified information — could have been compromised and may have been sold to hostile foreign governments that could use it to blackmail members of Congress or even put their lives at risk.
“‘This is a massive, massive scandal,’ a senior US official familiar with the widening probe told The Post.”
That this is a massive scandal is an understatement. While some Democratic congressmen got rid of these Pakistani IT specialists months ago, inexplicably, Wasserman Schultz kept Awan on her staff until the day he was arrested as he was trying to flee the country for Pakistan. What is that all about?
Step back and take a look at this for a moment. Consider the number of Democratic congressmen involved, the wide variety of crimes allegedly perpetrated by Awan and his family over a period of years. Also consider the millions of dollars they were paid for their “services,” and now the revelation that they may have used their positions as IT staffers to gather classified information for sale to Russia and Pakistan.
Hillary must be jealous that someone might have finally outdone her in her area of specialization, that being corruption. Of course, she was only one person, and this case involves numerous perpetrators, so her position at the top is probably secure.
This story is enormous, the details are myriad, and unraveling it all will take perhaps thousands of hours of competent investigation. But we can hit some of the highlights to get a picture of just how serious this is, and how derelict these congresspersons were in hiring this collection of hoods.
“For more than a decade, Awan, his wife, two relatives and a friend worked for 30 House Democrats. They included New York City pols Gregory Meeks, Joseph Crowley and Yvette Clarke and members of the sensitive Intelligence and Foreign Relations committees.”
Just the fact that this bunch insinuated itself into that particular committee alone should set of alarm bells.
“The Democrats who hired the five suspects apparently did a poor job vetting them. Awan’s brother Abid had a rap sheet with multiple offenses, including a conviction for DWI a month before he was hired, and filed for bankruptcy in 2012.
“Most had relatively little IT experience. Yet they hauled in a combined $4 million-plus over the past decade. One, a former McDonald’s worker, was suddenly making as much as a chief of staff.
“‘These lawmakers allowed an insider threat to come into the House,’ the official charged. ‘Computer equipment was stolen, taxpayers were robbed of hundreds of thousands of dollars, and sensitive data was compromised and possibly sold overseas.'”
This scandal is appalling. Unlike the silliness surround the criticisms of President Trump, in this case, there are multiple smoking guns, very suspicious transactions that have been demonstrated to have actually occurred, people actually under indictment, and a genuine possibility that classified materials were sold, right under the noses of numerous congresspersons, to spies from Russia and Pakistan.
Of all the government corruption to be investigated, this may well be the most serious of the lot and demand the greatest in investigative and prosecutorial resources.
It could be that we’ve finally found a scandal that rivals those of Hillary’s. That would be an amazing accomplishment and one that should send shivers down everyone’s spines.
