There are several Republican leaders who should quickly become former Republican leaders. Near the top of that list would be Speaker Ryan. He’s never been a supporter of the president, hence he should get out of the way and let someone lead who is. Fat chance.
If there is one thing that Mr. Trump was know for during the campaign is his proposed crack-down on illegal immigration with the border wall with Mexico a centerpiece. Either the Speaker of the House needs to get on-board with this project or quit. His obstruction of President Trump has gotten more than tiresome. It’s like he is taking lessons and orders from Nancy Pelosi.
Add to all of this the testimony of a Board Control Agent who emphatically supports the border wall. His words should be put on a poster board and nailed to Ryan’s office door. So what did he say about the Ryan and the border wall?
Border Patrol Agent Judd was recently interviewed by Stuart Varney of Fox News. This question was asked of the agent: “‘Speaker Paul Ryan is suggesting that Congress delay border wall funding until next year,’ Varney stated. ‘What do you say about that?'”
Judd’s reply was unequivocal. “‘I disagree,’ Judd said flatly. ‘President Trump promised that he was going to secure the border, and part of securing the border is putting in place, the proper technology and resources that allows us to be successful and a border wall in strategic locations is one of those things that we must get done.'”
You can watch the interview here:
Speaker Ryan knows precisely what the president’s objectives are. While they can have their differences, this is not a minor issue. Ryan needs to get on-board immediately or step aside. “‘The big chunk of money for the border wall really is next year’s fiscal appropriations,’ Ryan said. ‘Because they literally can’t start construction even this quickly.'”
If Mr. Ryan really believes that line he is putting out, it’s proof he’s been in government too long. Of course, the project can begin very soon. Bids are already being taken.
Agent Judd is correct. There is no excuse for Ryan’s obstruction of of the president. They days of his behaving as though they are in two different political parts should be over. It’s unfortunate for Mr. Ryan that he did not get the president he wanted. Maybe he would have even preferred Hillary. Who knows?
But that’s just too bad. He botched the health care reform initiative, possibly deliberately. He must not be allowed to do the same with the border wall. Lives are depending on it.
