The scandal involving Russia is continuing, if not intensifying, but not in the way the Democrats have hoped. The idea was to play off of comments made by Donald Trump during the campaign expressing a desire to get along with Vladimir Putin. The left went berserk. Apparently they want continued conflict instead, maybe even leading to war.
In any event, this comment made by Mr. Trump became the fuel for a leftist-led witch hunt attempting to show that somehow Russia was currying favor with Trump by actively supporting his campaign for president. There has been no proof of any allegations of wrongdoing by Trump or his campaign. Yet the Democrats just don’t want to let go of what has become such a non-event that it is now boring.
Or it was boring until attention was directed to alleged connections between the Clinton campaign as well as top Democratic Party officials and Russian interests. So it could be that the whole thing is about to backfire on the Democrats, especially when we review what has been revealed so far.
Tony Podesta is the brother of Hillary Clinton’s former campaign chairman, John Podesta. It looks like Tony is the one with the relationship with the Russians, not President Trump. “Democrat super-lobbyist Tony Podesta was paid $170,000 over a six-month period last year to represent Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, seeking to end one of the Obama administration’s economic sanctions against that country, The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Investigative Group has learned.”
So the Democrats have been accusing President Trump of playing it close with the Russians, for which there is no proof, while we have evidence that a top Democrat took $170,000 from a Russian bank in what is nothing less than an attempt to bribe the Obama administration into dropping some of its sanctions on Russia. Count the number of infractions in that one if proven true.
The bribe might not have paid off, but it wasn’t for lack of trying. “The lobbying campaign targeted Congress and the executive branch, with Podesta and other lobbyists arranging at least two meetings between Sberbank officers and Department of State officials, according to Elena Teplitskaya, Sberbank’s board chairman, who spoke to House aides in August.”
Sort of makes one wonder who those state department officials were.
Where there’s a Clinton, there’s a scandal. So you knew that sooner or later one of the Clintons would be mixed up in this.
“The busy Podesta Group also represented Uranium One, a uranium company acquired by the Russian government which received approval from Hillary Clinton’s State Department to mine for uranium in the U.S. and gave Russia twenty percent control of US uranium. The New York Times reported Uranium One’s chairman, Frank Guistra, made significant donations to the Clinton Foundation, and Bill Clinton was paid $500,000 for one speech from a Russian investment bank that has ‘links to the Kremlin that was promoting Uranium One stock.'”
If things continue in this direction, it will be interesting to see of Democratic leaders in Congress will be as eager for the government to conduct investigations into relationships between US politicians and Russian interests as they have been until now.
