Back in the days of my grandparents’ immigration to this country, they were expected to have what was called a sponsor family. This was a person or person(s) who “vouched” for the immigrant, basically saying that they were responsible for the immigrant’s well-being, housing and welfare. You could not come into this country without a sponsor. And if you did manage to enter the US without a sponsor, you could not request assistance from the government.
When you came to this country back in the early days of the 20th Century, you were expected by our government and the American people to be able to fend for yourself. You were expected to be a contributing member of society. You were expected to not be a burden on your community. It was a simple request and most every immigrant honored those expectations.
Fast forward to the 1970s to the new millennium and one would think that the entire country had been flipped on its head! A person could come to this country, legally or illegally, and IMMEDIATELY begin draining money from hard-working taxpayers. The Socialist mentality of the Left has boggled the imagination with its idiotic brand of hand-outs. The Trump administration has just issued an order that will not only put a stop to all this, but will keep welfare out of the hands of new migrants for 5 years!
During Friday’s Weekly Address, President Trump argued the immigration reform proposal he put forward with Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR) and David Perdue (R-GA) “ends the abuse of our welfare system, stops chain migration, and protects our workers and our economy.”

“My fellow Americans, As we celebrate American Dream Week at the White House, we continue to see incredible results.
[F]or too long, the dreams of many Americans have been put out of reach by Washington. Washington funded one global project after another, while allowing other countries to drain our jobs and drain the wealth of the United States of America. Then, Washington taxed and regulated our own workers and industries, taking away their ability to earn a living.
But those days are over. My administration is working tirelessly on behalf of the American people. We have removed regulations and targeted unfair trade practices that are hurting Americans all over the world. We’re ending the war on coal and unleashing American energy. We’re introducing a tax plan to grow our economy and create more jobs.
And just this week, we announced a historic immigration bill to create a merit-based green card system that ends the abuse of our welfare system, stops chain migration, and protects our workers and our economy.
As an example, you cannot get welfare for five years when you come into our country. You can’t just come in, like in past weeks, years and decades — you come in, immediately start picking up welfare. For five years, you have to say you will not be asking — or using our welfare systems.
It’s really an historic achievement when one man can not only cruise into the Swamp in DC and begin picking off swamp-rats with a Colt .45 (after all, he is the 45th President) but to then also follow up with picking off their favorite pet programs and entitlements is even more of an amazing accomplishment.
While it’s true that he has had to claw, bite, kick, gouge, and scratch for every single millimeter of a victory, it’s also true that these hard-fought triumphs come with one, huge, and very important reward: The respect of each and every person that voted for Donald J. Trump in last year’s election. Let Hillary write all the books she wants; the fact of the matter is that under a Clinton presidency right now, this day would have looked like Obama’s 9th year in office! Yikes.
