It is becoming increasingly obvious that getting a fair and unbiased investigation from Special Counsel Mueller is going to be a problem. Recall that this man, when appointed, was heralded as very fair and one who could be trusted to act with the utmost of integrity. Sounded good.
As matters proceed there is reason to believe these hopes were unfounded. For one thing, he has filled his staff with attorneys who were prominent donors to Democrats. To whom they donate their money is their own business, but it does raise eyebrows. Imagine a President Hillary Clinton under investigation (something that would be almost inevitable) by a special counsel with an office full of Republicans. The screams from the left would be deafening.
At issue now is that Mueller has opened an investigation into whether President Trump is guilty of obstruction of justice because he fired FBI Director Comey, something he clearly had the power to do. Are we on the cusp of a political witch hunt?
“President Donald Trump challenged the authenticity of the reported investigation into charges that he obstructed justice by firing former FBI director James Comey, suggesting that it was just the latest attempt by his political enemies to damage his presidency.”
“Citing anonymous sources close to the investigation, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday that Special Counsel Robert Mueller was interviewing senior intelligence officials to see if Trump tried to influence or block the Russian investigation into Mike Flynn.
“‘You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history – led by some very bad and conflicted people!’ Trump told his supporters on Twitter.”

There is a determined, and not unexpected, effort on the part of the left to do most anything to derail the Trump administration, no matter how nefarious or unethical those efforts might be. The question is whether the special counsel is impartial or is part of that effort.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is very clear where he stands on the question.
“‘Mueller is now clearly the tip of the deep state spear aimed at destroying or at a minimum undermining and crippling the Trump presidency,’ former House Speaker Newt Gingrich wrote on Twitter.
“He accused Mueller of setting up a ‘dragnet’ of obstruction so that he could investigate every aspect of Trump’s personal life and business associations.
“The brazen redefinition of Mueller’s task tells you how arrogant the deep state is and how confident it is it can get away with anything,’ Gingrich said.”
Perhaps the deep state’s confidence is misplaced. Let’s hope so. Just remember that Donald Trump did not accomplish all the things he has in his life by being a doormat or by rolling over in the face of opposition. That would be a fact that his opposition would ignore at their peril.
