The battle over the preposterous and dangerous practice of establishing sanctuary cities continues. You know the story. Democrats have concluded to increase the ranks of liberal voters by encouraging illegals to take up residence in such cities. This is done with the promise of generous welfare benefits coupled with efforts to shield them from deportation by the federal government.
The missing link is a method to grant these illegals voting rights. Looking the other way at the polls will work. Some form of amnesty coupled with citizenship is probably the end goal. What this all overlooks, of course, is the fact that a lot of these illegals are dangerous criminals. And a welfare check and a voter ID might not get them to change their ways.
New York City is one such sanctuary city. As such, it appears to be quite comfortable releasing dangerous and violent criminals. This, in spite of the danger these illegals present to the citizens of their city. Under the leadership of President Trump, however, ICE is doing the job officials in New York will not. Forty-two illegals who were released from jail in New York have been arrested by ICE. As such, the streets of New York City have just become a bit safer.
“ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officers began the operation on November 13 and concluded it shortly before Thanksgiving.
In total, officers arrested 55 illegal aliens. Forty-two of those arrested had been in New York law enforcement custody and were released despite ICE having placed immigration detainers on the aliens, according to information obtained by Breitbart Texas from ICE officials.”
This is one of the offenses the leaders of sanctuary cities are committing. They are ignoring immigration detainers, and are simply turning illegals loose. This is nothing less than the obstruction of federal authorities working to enforce federals laws.
“‘Forty-two of the 55 arrested during this operation were released from New York custody with an active detainer, which poses an increased risk to the officers and the community.,’ ERO New York Field Office Director Thomas Decker said in a written statement. ‘It is important for city residents to know that although the City of New York releases inmates with active ICE detainers back into their community, ICE will be diligent in its responsibility to find those who come to the United States to prey upon our communities and ultimately have them removed from the country.'”
The people of New York City are as irresponsible as their leaders are derelict. This problem could be fixed completely at the ballot box. In fact, the solution might not have to wait until the next election. If politicians supporting the city’s status as a sanctuary city realized they were about to be voted out of office there would be a prompt change of policy.
Sadly, it would seem that the majority of the people of New York are not troubled by having violent illegals loose in the community. They clearly prefer this to insisting their leaders cooperate with ICE in removing such individuals.
It might be that hard-core liberal attitudes are as hard to fix as is stupid.
