The Obama administration may be over, but the scandals that emanated from that regime continue unabated. Perhaps it’s a result of the sheer magnitude of the corruption that was endemic to Mr. Obama’s administration. Whatever the explanation, we now have a new revelation concerning what has been an ongoing scandal.
One factor that seems to unify the most prominent of Obama administration scandals has been the odd disappearance of emails. Someone with a more suspicious nature might be prone to believe that this was deliberate, meaning that evidence was destroyed to protect the guilty. For an administration that promised transparency, it missed that goal by a mile.
What we are now discovering as a result of the outstanding work of Judicial Watch is that Lois Lerner’s emails relative to the accusations that she used the IRS to target conservative groups have now been “lost” and destroyed. You are willing to believe whether this was deliberate or not as you choose.
“Judicial Watch’s litigation forced the IRS first to say that emails belonging to Lois Lerner, former director of the Exempt Organizations Unit of the IRS, were supposedly missing and later declare to the court that the emails were on IRS back-up systems. Lerner was one of the top officials responsible for the IRS’ targeting of President Obama’s political opponents.”
So where does this stand now?
“President of Judicial Watch, Tom Fitton had this to say in response to a July 13 Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration report, which finds that the IRS records management practice mysteriously ‘lost’ IRS documents:
“This new report is shocking but not surprising. We have long battled the IRS in court over its obstruction in responding to FOIA requests about Obama era IRS abuses. It is a scandal that the Obama IRS did not tell Judicial Watch, the courts, or Congress about the loss of government records. Our attorneys will review this report to assess whether we should seek relief and accountability from the courts. In the meantime, President Trump should finally fire IRS Commissioner John Koskinen and direct the Justice Department to reopen its criminal inquiry into the Obama IRS abuses and cover-ups.”
This is criminal behavior piled on top of corruption. The IRS is already a powerful agency with the ability to conduct devastating audits that consume the targets’ time and money to defend against. To use that power against political opponents is a disgusting abuse.
And make no mistake, Lerner knew what she was doing. Hence we are advised that the emails relative to all of this are now “missing.” How very convenient.
President Trump should definitely direct the Justice Department to investigate this and see that those who were responsible are charged with the crimes they committed.
