President Trump’s travel ban has the world of the left in fits of rage. For some reason, these people are unable to accept the fact that, outside their comfortable little self-created worlds, there might be people who mean us harm – groups with members who are hostile to our culture and way of life and who mean to subvert it with violent means if necessary.
In one sense, the left and Islamic jihadists do have similar beliefs. Neither have any use for traditional western culture, which typically means what has come to be called Judaeo-Christian culture. The people of Germany are learning that lesson right now. Mr. Trump wishes to spare Americans from a similar fate, hence the executive order that has the left foaming at the mouth.
In an attempt to thwart Mr. Trump’s order, a request was made of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York to block his order. A sympathetic judge, appointed by Mr. Obama, “issued a temporary emergency halt to Trump’s immigration ban.” But the result is not what was expected.
You can always count on the ACLU to support the left, and so it’s no surprise when, “The National Political Director of the ACLU, Faiz Shakir, boldly stated, ‘I hope Trump enjoys losing. He’s going to lose so much we’re going to get sick and tired of his losing.’” Of course, Shakir is trying to be clever and cute by adapting one of Mr. Trump’s well-known statements to serve his own purpose. His problem is neither his comment nor the judge’s decision have worked out as he might have hoped.
It turns out that the ACLU’s celebration was premature as the judge’s order turned out to be a dud. Trump’s solution was perfect: send the order over to the Department of Homeland Security and let them run with it.
“The Department of Homeland Security issued a statement early Sunday saying that they plan on continuing to ‘enforce all of the president’s executive orders in a manner that ensures the safety and security of the American people.’
“The DHS said the court order would not affect the overall implementation of the White House order and the court order affected a small number of travelers who were inconvenienced by security procedures upon their return.”
This situation was clarified when, “Stephen Miller, a Senior Advisor to the White House, also weighed in, explaining, ‘Nothing in the Brooklyn judge’s order in any way impedes or prevents the implementation of the president’s executive order which remains in full, complete and total effect.’”
It would appear that the Obama-friendly judge, as well as the ACLU are the ones that might need to get used to losing. And it couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch.
