It includes just what disgusts people about the gatherings of politicians from around the world. People who are not responsible for the results of their words and actions meet at the taxpayers’ expense, hold lengthy meetings, then release position papers and make recommendations that will never get implemented. Or if they are implemented, the results will be different from what was intended. In other words, these gathering are so often either worthless, or make problems worse.
The idea that a bunch of diplomats and politicians can meet in France, especially without representation from Israel or the Palestinians, and can contribute something positive to the situation in the Middle East is preposterous. Yet that’s exactly what they did, complete with over 70 countries in attendance. That a solution to the decades-long conflict between the Palestinians and the Israelis should be desired is obvious. That this group is going to contribute something to that cause is a farce. Along with that, what they have just done to Israel will have you shaking your head.
It’s not enough that France and other European nations are having their own problems dealing with Muslim immigrants who are unwilling to integrate into European societies, but are otherwise creating violence. They’ve decided to insert themselves once again into the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in yet another futile effort to accomplish some positive. And, as to be expected, the deliberations were useless as seen in the document released.
According to Breitbart, this meeting in Paris resulting in a document that emphasized the following five points:
1 – The text draws a moral equivalency between “violence,” which would include Palestinian terrorism targeting civilians, and “settlement activity,” meaning Israelis building homes in the West Bank or eastern sections of Jerusalem.
2 – The declaration calls for Israel to “fully end the occupation that began in 1967,” language that seems to mean that Israel would need to withdraw from the entire West Bank and eastern Jerusalem and thus shrink the country to indefensible borders.
3 – The declaration patronizes Israel by calling on both parties to “restate” their commitments to the two-state solution.
4 – The declaration gives credibility to the so-called Arab Peace Initiative, which threatens Israel’s security.
5 – The Paris declaration “welcomed” UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which passed last month when the U.S. abstained and refers to the entire West Bank and eastern Jerusalem as so-called occupied Palestinian territories while demanding a complete halt to all Israeli construction in those areas.
Notice what’s missing from this? That’s right, anything new. This is nothing more than a re-hash of the same talking points we’re heard for decades with just a bit of freshening up to make the statements more current. And again, the target was Israel. And again, Obama’s cronie, Secretary of State John Kerry, was perfectly happy to attack Israel again.
Here’s a money-saver that is sure to work. The next time a statement like this is desired, grab some political science majors at a top university, buy them some beer and pizza in return for crafting a such a document, and leave all the diplomats and politicians at home.
That’s not to say you’ll get a workable document – you won’t – it will be just as useless as the one produced in Paris. But think of all the money that will be saved.
