If there is one thing the Left is very good at, it’s the ability to deceive. Some of that deception is outright lying, some not so clandestine, but still others are subtle; like when they change the names of things to make them seem less severe, more friendly, or just plain different.
One of the more fun examples is when they changed the word “taxes” to “federally-mandated revenue!” Or how about CNN’s little trick of not wanting to offend their Spanish-speaking audience, but were in a conundrum because a man named George Zimmerman was Hispanic. So, in a panic, they began referring to him as a “white Hispanic!”
So, this is just something they do and often times, it ends up blowing up in their faces. The terrorism at Fort Hood became “workplace violence” and Islamic terrorists became “enemy combatants!” Well, one that did stick is now about to go away…hopefully forever. The Department of Justice has just announced that “undocumented immigrants” will finally be amended to reflect the truth: That these people are breaking the law and that they don’t belong here. From now on, they will rightfully be referred to as “illegal aliens!”
Departing from Obama-era terms like “undocumented,” “unauthorized,” and “migrants,” the DOJ began referring to illegal immigrants as “illegal aliens.”
“Today Attorney General Jeff Sessions met with families who have lost loved ones because of crimes committed by illegal aliens,” read the opening line of a DOJ press release last month.
The term appeared again last week in an official statement announcing tougher rules for sanctuary cities, according to Fox News.
“So-called ‘sanctuary’ policies make all of us less safe because they intentionally undermine our laws and protect illegal aliens who have committed crimes,” Sessions said in a statement.
Naturally, this shift in word choice outraged those on the left who claim the term “illegal” is somehow a racist slur.
Chicago Tribune writer Todd Slowik complained that “word choice is important,” and can send the wrong message.
While President Trump has regularly used the term “illegal immigrant,” former President Obama steered clear of the words, often opting for the term “undocumented immigrant.
According to the Internal Revenue Service, an “illegal alien” is defined as “an individual who is not a U.S. citizen or U.S. national,” arguably a clear and accurate term to describe someone in the U.S. without permission.
The fact of the matter is when we begin to spin things away from their original meaning, we hurt those who are supposed to be protected by our laws. By downgrading the seriousness of a person’s depravity or illegal actions, we commend them in a backhanded way and make it seem as if it’s all okay in the US.
Encouragement to violate federal immigration laws is what the Obama administration did for eight straight years. He trashed the police, threw white people and Christians under the bus in favor of Muslim “refugees,” and called our military “overzealous.” Man, would I love to be a fly on the wall of Luis Gutierrez’s house right now!
