True to form, when the Democrats don’t get their way, they throw an entitled, collective fit. In the case of the 2016 election, since they were assured…promised…by everyone and their mother that Hillary was a shoe-in, that her coronation was a sure thing and that Donald Trump wouldn’t muster 20% of the vote, they banked on those prognostications. There was only one problem: the people who were making such unsubstantiated assurances were attempting to influence the vote through misinformation, alternative truth, and false facts. Talk about collusion.
In an effort to excuse their gross negligence in minding the Fourth Estate storefront, the Fake News Industrial Complex set about a plan to then delegitimize the Trump presidency by putting forward the perception that there was collusion with Russian officials, there was massive voter fraud, and that the Electoral College (which was perfectly acceptable when they thought Hillary would be crowned) was a corrupt institution that required coercion by celebrities in Hollywood to change delegates’ minds, whether they liked it or not.
When, still, that didn’t work, it was finally sloughed off on the minor Democrat bench players. People like Maxine Waters, Elizabeth Warren, John McCain (woops!), and Luis Gutierrez to be let off their leashes for the attack. And attack they did! Waters is on record at MSNBC alone as having uttered the “I”-word (impeachment) over 400 times! But it was Representative Al Green of Texas who really brought his A-game to the fore. Green drafted and then forced a vote on the floor of the House yesterday on his Articles of Impeachment against our president. But there was a HUGE problem in this endeavor: Only 58 Democrats thought it was vote-worthy!
The impeachment process against Donald J. Trump began in the early morning hours of Nov. 9, when it became clear that the Republican standard bearer had carried the state of Pennsylvania and therefore the Electoral College.
The first avenue for impeachment was collusion with the Russians. Maxine Waters suggested that coming up with the nickname “Crooked Hillary” was enough to get him impeached. However, none of them had the brilliant strategy that Rep. Al Green of Texas cooked up: why actually require a crime for impeachment?
On Wednesday, Green introduced articles of impeachment against President Trump in the House of Representatives. Trump stood accused of… nothing. There was no crime mentioned in the articles of impeachment. In fact, that wasn’t just a bug in the plan, it was a feature.
Suffice it to say, it didn’t go so well. Even among Democrats.
According to The Daily Caller, the articles of impeachment were tabled — a polite, Robert’s Rules of Order way of saying “we have no intention of spending any of our time on this crap” — by a vote of 364-58.
Putting that in perspective, there are 193 Democrats at present serving in the House of Representatives.
That means that — desperate to get Donald J. Trump out of office though they may be — 135 Democrats voted against impeachment vs. 58 that voted for it. The GOP, perhaps unsurprisingly, didn’t break ranks on this one. Even Justin Amash.
In other words, more Democrats voted for Trump to stay in office than to leave.
Part of the problem was that there wasn’t actually any reason why Trump should have been impeached. That’s not me talking here, that’s Rep. Al Green.
“A common misconception associated with impeachment proceedings is that an impeachable offense must be explicitly illegal. This is not the case,” Green wrote in a memo.
Yes, that’s so true. In his brilliance that is yet to be fathomed by even the brightest Constitutional scholars in the Congress, Green actually stated that a crime doesn’t need to have been committed for an impeachment to take place! No, really. He actually said that in an interview. I’m shocked that the View didn’t have him on their show, playing patty-cake with Joy Behar and Whoopi.
In the end, however, it turns out that, as the Daily Caller puts it, Democrats really didn’t want to throw Trump under the bus with an impeachment. To be honest, the Left loves one very important (and lucrative) fact about our president. They absolutely adore the fact that, had it not been for Donald Trump, CNN, The New York Times, Washington Post, AP, Reuters, NPR, BBC, Time, Newsweek, GQ, and Sports Illustrated would be operating in the red. Think about that dichotomy.
