We’ve known since day one that President Trump had an uphill battle to fight. The enemy: former President Barack Obama’s deep state.
What we didn’t expect was for the deep state to be so entrenched and so dirty with politics that it would take President Trump months, even years to stop all of the previous years of corruption.
It has gotten so bad, that the CEO of a Department of Veterans Affairs hospital in Puerto Rico that was fired by President Trump directly, now has a new job, still within that VA hospital! And this is after he was caught driving while intoxicated, and carrying medication with him (probably from the hospital) that was not given to him as a prescription!
From Independent Journal Review:
On the same day that President Donald Trump was sworn in, he began taking on the task of fulfilling his campaign promise to drain the swamp.
Fox News reported that on January 20, he fired DeWayne Hamlin, the CEO of a Veterans Affairs hospital in Puerto Rico.
According to The Daily Caller, VA whistleblower Joseph Colon alerted officials that Hamlin had been arrested for driving while intoxicated and being in possession of painkillers without a corresponding prescription.
Hamlin ordered Colon to be fired and when Rosayma Lopez refused to carry out the order, she was offered $300,000 to quit. The Daily Caller reported that Lopez refused to take the money, which would have been the largest settlement in recent history.
However, as seen in multiple other instances of VA scandals, Hamlin appealed to the Merit Systems Protection Board and was rehired by the same hospital he’d been fired from.
James Hutton, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for the VA, confirmed to The Daily Caller that Hamlin was, “brought back to work at VA,” although it’s unknown what his current job title is.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. David Shulkin said the decision to re-hire Hamlin was made before he took on his position but that he would not have supported it. He told reporters:
“The Merit Systems Protection Board indicated that they believed that we needed to take him back. I would have fought that through all the appeals processes that were available to us.”
When the odds are completely against you, as they were President Trump when he took the oath of office, all you can do is stop each deep state crony, one at a time.
In this case, it looks like between President Trump and VA Secretary David Shulkin, they will need to work with Congress and the Department of Justice to ensure that our vets are protected and taken care of by the right people. And the sooner the better!
