One qualification for being a good liberal is the ability to be offended at the slightest possible hint of an idea that goes against the leftist orthodoxy. Wailing and gnashing of teeth at such perceived offenses is considered a virtue. This is displayed regularly by leftists, and has shifted into high-gear as we approach Donald Trump’s inauguration as president.
There is a problem with being on such a hair trigger when it comes to being offended – you might find yourself at odds with other liberals whose priorities differ with yours. After all, with so many things to get offended over, there’s bound to be a conflict sooner or later, even among those who consider themselves model liberals.
These conflicts can take place as easily offended individuals are hit with the reality that there are other progressives who have different priorities with the result being conflicts. Such is happening now with some ladies who are planning to protest at the presidential inauguration ceremonies.
One of the myriad of protests planned for inauguration day is the “Women’s March on Washington.” Supposedly, this is to be a demonstration of feminist solidarity against Donald Trump and the views he represents. It doesn’t take much to figure out the causes they will champion. Nor is it tough to imagine the righteous indignation that will be displayed against all things and people related to Mr. Trump.
One problem that the group is having is that it seems to be splintering before they ever get to Washington – and along racial lines, no less. Specifically, “Contentious conversations about race have erupted nearly every day among marchers, exhilarating some and alienating others. Some complained that the event had turned from a march for all women into a march for black women.”
Discussions among participants have been peppered with some rather nasty talk: “A black activist from Brooklyn who is a march volunteer, advised ‘white allies’ to listen more and talk less. It also chided those who, it said, were only now waking up to racism…”
The result is that the demonstration will go on, only it looks like there will be a white women’s march and a black women’s march. “Apparently the movement split up into two groups. Now there’s the regular, batty feminist march, and then the white-silencing march for black women.”
Perfect. And here we’ve been told all along that the left is the true champion of racial harmony. Apparently not.
