Intrigue is endemic to politics, and for those who enjoy a good mystery, the world of politics offers unprecedented opportunities to examine the news and to speculate on what is really going on behind the scenes.
This has been particularly true over the past several years as the Obama administration, and in particular, Hillary Clinton, have generated a continuous flow of news that point to nefarious actions being taken just outside of the public’s view.
One of the signs that something is not right has been the need for Hillary to deny one allegation of criminal behavior after another.
Perhaps her hope was that people would become so fatigued by these stories that they would just ignore them.
Such has not been the case, and she remains the center of controversy and even the subject of a federal investigation years after she left the office of secretary of state.
Then there is the case of DNC staffer Seth Rich.
Recall that he was murdered almost a year ago. The official story provided by the police is that this was a robbery that went wrong.
There are a number of problems with this explanation, and now an independent study group has claimed that they have found that Rich’s death had nothing to do with robbery, but was a hit committed by a hired assassin.
If so, the obvious questions are by whom and why?
“According to a new investigative study released Tuesday, Rich may have been killed by a hired killer or serial killer. It took a group of volunteer students and graduates from George Washington University to dig into this unsolved case, despite unanswered petitions asking the government to appoint a special investigation into Rich’s murder. These forensic-psychology students and instructors made up the group known as The Profiling Project.”
“‘Seth’s death does not appear to be a random homicide,’ the report stated in its summary of findings. Contrary to the police reports claiming that Rich’s death was a robbery gone awry, the report stated that ‘Seth’s death does not appear to be a robbery gone bad’ and was ‘more likely committed by a hired killer or serial murderer.'”
One reason his death does not appear to be a robbery is because there is a problem determining of what he might have been robbed.
“As others have noted, most robberies don’t end in murder and most robberies do end with stolen goods. Rich still had all his valuables on his person.”
There are other problems with the official explanation of what happened.
“‘The crime-scene appeared to be almost sanitized … No firearms casings were reported to be found, no physical evidence was reported.’ They concluded the killer did ‘not appear to be psychotic,’ but rather methodical in the execution of the crime and in fleeing and remaining unidentified by law enforcement officials.”
What has naturally contributed to this story remaining alive is the fact that Rich was a DNC staffer, and that there have been allegations that he had leaked or was in the process of leaking confidential DNC materials to Wikileaks.
That could be a motive for someone wanting him dead.
As these investigators pointed out, the likelihood that some thief would randomly pick out someone who just happened to have access to campaign secrets in the middle of an election as a target for a robbery that was bungled and that inadvertently ended in the victim’s death is remote.
And has with many good mysteries, this story isn’t over yet.
