Whoever heard of having to pass a law in order to enforce another law? This happens only in that bubble referred to as Washington, DC.
While it may seem like a strange set of hoops to have to jump through, sometimes new legislation is badly needed in order to combat the fact that current, written law is being simply ignored. It’s a ridiculous, backwards situation that is the typical result of liberal thinking.
In our particular story today, the US has immigration laws. The US has agencies to enforce those laws. However, they have not been enforced due to the preferences and agenda of Barack Obama. In addition, some cities have set themselves up as havens for illegals, promising them that those laws will not be enforced within their jurisdictions – hence the name “sanctuary cities.” The question might be debated as to how cities can deliberately and willfully thumb their noses at federal laws by encouraging these illegals migrants to come to their cities to avoid deportation – in other words, officially helping them break the laws. The answer to that question is the selective enforcement of those laws by Mr. Obama. However, that is about to end.
You might wonder why cities would wish to attract these migrants. After all, they are not all peace-loving people. Chicago is one example. It is a city run by former Obama staffer Mayor Rahm Emanuel who said, “Chicago always will be a sanctuary city,’ NPR reported. ‘To all those who are, after Tuesday’s election, very nervous and filled with anxiety … you are safe in Chicago, you are secure in Chicago and you are supported in Chicago.’”
What Mr. Emanuel should add to that list of promises is that “you will be poor in Chicago, and you are likely to wind up dead in Chicago.” Note that Emanuel’s comments come, “in the face of the city’s massive crime and murder rates. By the end of the year, Chicago would approach 800 murders by the end of 2016.” The city is broke, too, as is the state of Illinois. But liberals never allowed a scarcity of funds to impact their decisions.
So the solution to this problem lies in part with Mr. Trump, who can instruct the federal law enforcement agencies responsible for border security to do their jobs. He can also get rolling on the border wall, although that may require some legislation from Congress.
Another solution, which directly addresses these sanctuary cities, is legislation proposed by Representative Lou Barletta (R-PA) and entitled, the Mobilizing Against Sanctuary Cities Act, H.R. 83. What does it do? It will, “strip law enforcement grants from sanctuary jurisdictions. ‘My bill will enhance this by stripping all federal funds–not one cent.’” For a city like Chicago that is already on the ropes financially as the result of incompetent and corrupt Democratic leadership, this spells disaster.
Should this much needed legislation become law, don’t expect the liberals running these sanctuary cities to roll over and play dead. There is much political capital invested in these illegal immigrants. They are to be the next wave of Democratic voters. So if a city already having trouble paying its police, firemen, and teachers has to go bust from the loss of its grants, so be it.
Any city that does experience serious additional financial hardship as a result of violating federal laws will no doubt blame their plight on those “heartless” Republicans, conveniently ignoring the fact that they are suffering because they refuse to put honest law enforcement before a corrupt scheme to create more Democrats. However, you know the truth of the matter, and thus are empowered to support both the strengthening and the enforcement of our immigration laws.
