Imagine having a U.S. Attorney General who actually enforces the federal laws.
Having just experienced eight years of an administration dedicated to promoting illegal immigration to serve its political goals, we now have federal officials who recognize that it is their job to enforce the laws. How encouraging it must be for those agents whose job it is to arrest illegals to have an attorney general who will support them for a change.
While that might have been an illusion during the Obama administration, it is just what we have in Attorney General Jeff Sessions. And consistent with President Trump’s promise to curtail illegal immigration, Mr. Sessions is doing just that.
Sessions made things very plain. “‘For those that continue to seek improper and illegal entry into this country, be forewarned: This is a new era. This is the Trump era. The lawlessness, the abdication of the duty to enforce our immigration laws and the catch and release practices of old are over,’ said Sessions.”
It doesn’t get more clear than that. Townhall adds to the story. “The attorney general announced that federal prosecutors are mandated to consider for felony prosecution people who transport or harbor illegal immigrants, and illegal immigrants who re-enter the country after being deported, especially those with a criminal history or gang affiliation.”
The issues of gangs infesting our cities and the damage they do are serious ones. People’s lives are destroyed and the area deteriorates as businesses cannot function in the environment these violent groups create.
Townhall continues: “When we talk about MS-13 and the cartels, what do we mean? We mean criminal organizations that turn cities and suburbs into warzones, that rape and kill innocent citizens and who profit by smuggling poison and other human beings across our borders. Depravity and violence are their calling cards, including brutal machete attacks and beheadings.”
It takes a liberal to turn a blind eye to such atrocities. And even if we assume that those on the left truly wish to champion the cause of the poor and disadvantaged, what about the victims of these criminal gangs and the violence they create? Shouldn’t the rights of peaceful citizens to live in cities unmolested by roving gangs of thugs come before some non-existent right of those of other nations to enter this country in violation of its laws?
Thankfully, we now have Jeff Sessions as our attorney general, and we look forward to aggressive efforts to stop illegal immigration as well as ridding our cities of violent gangs, regardless of their origin.
