It’s Official: Look Where They’ve Begun Border Wall Construction

While we can expect efforts at obstruction from the usual suspects as well as biased reporting from the liberal media, the truth is that candidate Trump promised a “big, beautiful border wall” between the United States and Mexico, and now President Trump is making it happen.

Is this news to you? That’s not a surprise. The keeping of campaign promises is not a very common occurrence in Washington, so perhaps the media does not know how to report such events, especially if it reflects well on a Republican. Just don’t expect glowing reports on the progress of the border wall in the major media the way you would stories of alleged great accomplishments by the Clinton Foundation.

Preparations for the construction of President Trump’s border wall have already begun in the Santa Ana Wildlife Refuge in South Texas. And actual construction could begin in a few months.

The Texas Observer reports that “[f]or at least six months, private contractors and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials have been quietly preparing to build the first piece of President Trump’s border wall through the Santa Ana Wildlife Refuge in South Texas. The federally owned 2,088-acre refuge, often called the ‘crown jewel of the national wildlife refuge system,’ could see construction begin as early as January 2018, according to a federal official who has been involved in the planning but asked to remain anonymous.”

Don’t be put off by the remarks that this is being done “quietly” as though some nefarious act is being committed in secret. The Observer reports from the left side of the political spectrum, hence the critical tone.

The Observer continues: “CBP plans to construct an 18-foot levee wall that would stretch for almost three miles through the wildlife refuge, according to the official. The structure would consist of a concrete base, which would serve as a levee, and be topped with a fence made of steel bollards, similar to a levee wall built almost a decade ago near Hidalgo, Texas.”

As the Gateway Pundit points out, “[y]ou’ll read the site was more concerned about the wildlife of Santa Ana Wildlife Refuge in South Texas than the President keeping his word on curbing illegal immigration.”

There are a couple of messages here that are worth noting. Foremost, of course, is the fact that work has begun on the promised border wall, even if it is in the preparatory stage with the heavy construction equipment to come later.

The other message is that stories such as this serve as a reminder that we are inundated with agenda-driven news. Since the overwhelming portion of the major media has a liberal agenda, stories will be written to support that agenda. Hence the innuendos in this story that the wall is somehow being constructed in secret, and the overriding concern for the wildlife are just tools to be used to somehow discredit the president’s agenda.

We may have more sources of news than ever, but instead of that making life easier, it simply means that source-checking has become even more important.
