The scandal that rocked Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party has finally come to a close.
Former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s downfall is now complete, as a judge has handed down a sentence for the sexting scandal that exploded in the news some time ago.
Weiner, a New York Democrat who was part of Hillary’s presidential campaign in 2016, had a penchant for sending lewd photos and message to young women online…very young women.
The case in question involved a 15-year-old girl, in fact, and many say this scandal had a profoundly negative impact on Hillary’s campaign.
Weiner, 53, will have some time to consider his misdeeds, though, because a judge has just handed down a sentence that will put the embattled politician behind bars.
That’s right, Judge Denise Cote has just ruled that Weiner will have to spend 21 months in prison for his sexting with an underage girl.
From ABC 7:
“Former Rep. Anthony Weiner was sentenced Monday to 21 months in prison for sexting with a 15-year-old girl in a case that rocked Hillary Clinton’s campaign for the White House in the closing days of the race and may have cost her the presidency.
Weiner, 53, dropped his head into his hand and wept as the sentence was announced by Judge Denise Cote.
After the hearing ended and Cote left the bench, he sat in his seat for several minutes, continuing to cry. He said nothing as he left the courthouse and must surrender to prison officials by Nov. 6.”
This sickness destroyed his marriage to Clinton’s closest aide, Huma Abedin, as well. And it is indeed a sickness, as Weiner himself admitted in court last year:
“I have a sickness, but I do not have an excuse.”
He tried to spare himself prison time and said he’d hit “rock bottom” but the Judge called it a “tragic cycle” of sexting, and the only way to stop it would be send Weiner away for a while.
This case was part of the reason why the FBI wanted to reopen the probe into Clinton’s private computer server. The FBI had found Weiner’s contacts with the high school girl in emails, after all.
Hillary went so far as to say this mess was “the determining factor” in her defeat.
But of course, she has blamed everyone but Zeus and Hitler for her loss, so that probably doesn’t mean much of anything.
The only reason Weiner didn’t get with a longer jail term is because Judge Cote said there was “no evidence of deviant interest in teenagers or minors,” and Weiner was finally getting “effective treatment.”
Well, whatever. The whole thing is lurid, sordid, and unfortunate.
And yes, these are the kinds of people that seem to crawl out of the Democratic Party. When a Party is morally bankrupt, it seems inevitable, doesn’t it?
